For many years I worked in weight control and it is a topic in which I am still very much interested. I was intrigued by the title of this book so requested a review copy.
I was charmed by the the whimsical cover of this slim little volume, which depicts a caricature character of a woman lolling on a sofa, with books, chocolates and a bottle of wine close to hand!! A very encouraging start, I thought! And was not disappointed……..
This is, above all, a very SENSIBLE book! If you aren’t hungry, don’t eat… regardless of what the clock says about it being mealtime. If you are feeling greedy and want two servings of something that perhaps you shouldn’t really eat, have them and compensate by eating less at your next meal. And don’t feel guilty…..
My own belief was that DIET should be treated as the 4-letter word it is and never used, and although Michele doesn’t say that, it is reflected in every page of her book.
As well as practical advice and helpful tips, there is also a very generous seasoning of humour right throughout.
She does spend a bit of time on exercises (hmm) but of the kind that can easily be integrated onto everyday activities. Her theme is “Be kind to yourself.. Let yourself be happy.. Don’t punish yourself” and she lists a range of activities to be enjoyed every day.
From a nutritional point of view, there is a very warm endorsement on the cover by a nutritionist I have always admired. Catherine Saxelby is a dietician, nutritionist and founder of Foodwatch.com.au and she describes this as ‘A fun, easy, gorgeous book that has all the right messages’!
High praise from a well regarded figure in the field of nutrition and weight control.
I am hoping to interview Michele Connolly but there are no notes about her background, so cannot establish whether she is in Australia. Her use of the word ‘calories’ rather than ‘kilojoules’ casts some doubt on this.
I do recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating starting on a weight reduction or health improvement program!
